MS-01: Cheney to Stump for Davis

From the Memphis Commercial Appeal:

Vice President Dick Cheney will stump for Republican Greg Davis at a Southaven rally next Monday, one day before the special election to fill the seat once held by Roger Wicker, the White House confirmed this morning.

Cheney is expected to attend one campaign event, spokesman Jamie Hennigan said. Details of where and when the event will take place were not available so far in advance of the date, he said.

The vote-rich suburb of Southaven, Davis’ base, is one of the strongest counties in Mississippi for the GOP, so if they’re going to roll out Cheney’s pasty ass in order to ramp up turnout, that would be the most logical place to do it.

It looks like the GOP is going to pull out all the stops in order to prevent another loss here.

UPDATE: Davis also has a particularly disgusting new ad out hitting Childers on Obama.  If you want to fight back, please consider doing so on the Swing State Project’s Actblue page for Travis Childers.

Special election: 5/13.

  1. Bring ’em on.

I hold firm to the idea that anything which links Greg Davis to such an epically failed administration and enabling, lockstep (though now bygone) Republican majority is good for Dems. Even in Mississippi. The working people well understand from where the hard times have come, and understand that it’s time for a change.

So, by all means, bring Dick “Dick” Cheney and his “So?” disdain for the citizenry down here to face the peasants. Should be interesting to see what sort of reception he receives.

Note how he even needs to make secret trips into Mississippi, and not just his unannounced visits to Iraq (where, it should be said, the president of Iran was greeted with all the pomp and circumstance the Iraqi government could muster. As opposed to American leaders who need to fly in unannounced under cover of darkness and escape before word gets out).

    Way to go, y’all.

  2. cover this event; darth is the single most hated poltician in the u.s. at this time(his ratings are somewhere in the 13% favorability range)

  3. I can’t stand Greg Davis either, ugh! He’s much worse than even a typical Republican. Look at the end of that ad, they have Davis with a child, trying to say Childers is a monster and anti-family. I don’t think this ad will work, it’s way over the top with its innuendo and calling Childers a liar for something he can’t control? Who cares if Obama endorsed Childers or not, did Childers endorse Obama? No.

And rolling out Dick Cheney. Haha, shouldn’t that drive people out for Childers and make Davis look even more extreme?

  4. Travis Childers talks about how the national debt impacts people, and Greg Davis runs an ad complaining about whether he was endorsed by Obama.

Do Mr. Davis and the Republicans have anything better than this, or have they been reduced to the content-less tactic of simply demonizing their opponents while offering nothing in the way of substance?

    1. the MORE media coverage darth’s visit gets; the BETTER for childers(childers’s campaign should get a HUGE picture of darth and davis together and make mobile billboards, put them on the back of pickup trucks and come election day, run them ALL OVER the district, especially the black AND poor neighborhoods)

  5. That falsely accused Childers of running a shoddy nursing home, despite their being zero document ed evidenve.  In fact the nursing home received a perfect score from a senior citizens watchdog group.

  6. I just watched the add, and I have to say, it was far lighter than I expected… Half the time I expect Republicans to come out saying Democrats eat aborted babies for snacks… This was pretty light… While there are far more important issues facing the good people of Mississippi’s 1st, this is not one of them. It must be remembered also though, that honesty is important to a great many people when selecting a candidate. They always pick the one they think lies less… LoL They are polititians after all. As others have said, lame add, but what would you expect… Are they going to make an add saying Davis will extend tax cuts to that greatly favor that top 1% of Americans? No, of course not… They’re going to point out that Childers has the endorsment of a scary black liberal… btw… did you see obama’s preacher? I mean, Obama has a preacher… preacher, preacher, preacher… Sigh…
